Homemade zero waste trail mix (for little people)
Any mum of a toddler will know that food serves as a great distraction when you’re trying to get the weekly shop done or you’re in line at the bank (actually, do people still line up to banks anymore?!).
Nuts and seeds pack a great nutritional punch, and most kids will enjoy the different tastes and textures of this homemade trail mix. This is a super simple “recipe” I concocted awhile ago and my toddler is a huge fan.
The reason I chose these ingredients as not only are they nutritious, but they don’t pose a choking risk (as long as the walnuts are chopped up finely).
1 tbsp pumpkin seeds
1 tbsp buckwheat puffs
1 tbsp sesame seeds
1 tbsp finely chopped walnuts
1 tbsp dried currants
Spoon each of the ingredients into a small glass jar or container. Place the lid on tight and give the jar a shake. Serve!
We are extremely lucky that my son doesn’t suffer from any food allergies, so we’ve been given the green light on peanuts, walnuts, etc. Please do not serve this trail mix until you know your child isn’t allergic.
